A man aged 46, named Muslim Brunson, has been taken into custody and charged after carrying out two random assaults in the SoHo area of Manhattan. Police have reported that Brunson, who is without a home and has a lengthy criminal record, attacked two women with a glass bottle on April 7, 2025. This event happened in daylight hours, resulting in one woman suffering severe injuries after being cut on the neck. The second woman escaped without any physical injury.
The New York Police Department indicated that the attacks took place around 3 p. m. on Broome Street. Brunson first hit a 29-year-old woman in the back with the bottle. Shortly after, he is accused of using the broken glass to slash a 25-year-old woman across the neck. The second victim, identified later as a costume designer named Megan Berg, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for emergency surgery. The NYPD confirmed that despite being in critical condition, she was conscious and alert after the procedure on the day of the incident.
Brunson is now facing several charges, such as attempted murder in the second degree, second-degree assault, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. In 2022, he attacked a female member of the NYPD, leading to serious facial injuries, and he was involved in a robbery in 2019 that targeted a 13-year-old boy.
